Life, Death and Lilies - Now Available to Watch!
We are delighted to be able to publicly launch Life, Death and Lilies, our film about bereavement.
Even though people with Learning Disabilities are living longer and will often experience the death of family and friends, conversations around death are often avoided. This can be for many reasons: lack of confidence in how to approach the topic, the fear of upsetting individuals or a desire to shield people from pain. Research and, more importantly, individuals themselves have told us of their desire, need and ability to have conversations related to death, dying, bereavement and loss. Life, Death and Lilies explores this topic.
Martine, Jasmin and Robert, who were integral in making the film, have been invited to travel to Chicago to present their work. They will be attending the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities conference, which takes place from 5th-8th August 2024, and giving a presentation about the film. Follow along with their journey on Facebook and Instagram!
This film was made in collaboration with and funded by Napier University, Edinburgh. We hope this film will enable other communities to discuss death in a safe forum and inspire groups to use inclusive and participatory creative methods to support discussion. A big thank you to everyone involved in creating this resource.
