Claire Scott on Living with Cystic Fibrosis

Claire Scott, a member at Garvald Mayfield House, is passionate about sharing her experience of living with Cystic Fibrosis.

She is working on a graphic novel that centres around a character living with the condition, and also recently gave a moving talk about her experiences to her friends and colleagues at Mayfield House.

She spoke about the tough realities of the illness as well as sharing where she finds inspiration in coping. She also answered questions from members and staff at the end of the talk. Despite facing significant challenges, Claire shared how she is able to find the positivity in daily life by following the work of others who live with Cystic Fibrosis. She credited the work of Youtube campaigners for helping her with her mindset.

“I used to think Cystic Fibrosis was a curse for me, but now I do truly see that it isn’t a curse but a gift,” Claire says. “People like Claire Wineland [Youtube Campaigner] helped change my view on having the illness. She caught my attention. I think it was her positive attitude to everything that I liked. Also she was so brave.”

As well as working on her graphic novel, Claire will also be adapting her talk into an article for the Garvald Pigeon (available to buy from the Garvald Makers shop from 1st December) so watch this space!
