Happy 10th Birthday, Mayfield House!

Garvald Mayfield House celebrated their 10th Birthday since opening on 14th June 2014. They were treated to fantastic cakes baked by Nathan, decorations created by members of the Jewellery Workshop, and all sang loudly "Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday to us..."

A person holds a platter of carrot cake slices up to the camera. A brightly coloured, lit candle has been stuck into each slice of cake.

Paul Macdonald (Day Service Manager) reflected that on the opening day there were just 4 members and 5 members of staff, but that the community at Mayfield House had since grown to around 100 members and staff.

He shared with members the drama that had ensued just 4 days before Mayfield House was due to open: a torrential downpour had flooded the building and jeopardised plans for opening.

After tireless work to sweep out the water, Mayfield House opened on time (albeit throughout the week people would find undiscovered puddles of water as they opened desk drawers).

A canteen full of people sit around dining tables. Many of them are clapping their hands, and others are smiling. Bright, colourful handmade decorations hang from the ceiling.

Robert, who was one of the original members there on opening day, beamed with pride at the 10th birthday celebration.

He gave a big thumbs up to his 10 years at Garvald Mayfield House and the incredible things he and his colleagues have achieved over these 10 years.

Happy birthday, Mayfield House!
