A Day at Waterside Spring Festival

At the end of May, Waterside Workshops hosted their second Spring Festival. They welcomed around 120 people from different buildings to their celebrations.

The Puppetry & Performance Workshop presented the latest version of their show Where the Wild Things Are. The event was sold out. “It was a great show, I cried, and I laughed,” said one of the audience members. Michael, who was visiting from Gorgie Workshops, said “The show was great.”

It was the first performance where all the music was created live by the actors and musicians on stage.

The Canteen Workshop worked hard to serve visitors a delicious selection of cakes, scones and hearty soups. The café was packed throughout the day, abuzz with many lovely conversations. “It is great to see Garvald members in their workshops,” one of the visitors said. Friends and family enjoyed looking around and tasting the delicious food made by the Canteen.

The members enjoyed sharing their work. Paul Byrne, who works in the Canteen said "I enjoyed meeting people and I helped with the dishwasher."

“I had a date slice and cup of tea. They were a hundred percent my favourite.” says Nico, who also works in the Canteen. “My mum and personal trainer came and they both really enjoyed the festival. We also bought the Waterside marmalade for my brother.”

A busy canteen with four people in it wearing aprons. Lots of nice cakes are on display, chocolate cake, banana cake, scones, date slice and there are cups for coffee and tea. A man is passing plate to a woman.

There was a stall selling beautiful handmade products created by the Puppetry Workshop and the Land Group. The Land Group transformed their back garden into a beautiful and welcoming space.  They had fun games (guess the number of worms in a jar?) and activities on offer (potting, chalk drawing and seed-bomb making).

All in all, the day was a wonderful opportunity for people from across Garvald to come together and celebrate all the hard work and creativity going on at Waterside.

A busy market stall filled with handmade products, including puppets, jars of marmalade, woven notebooks, homemade teabags, baskets. There are brightly coloured signs. People are taking money from the customers. A woman is looking at a print.
A tarmac courtyard with a chalk outline drawn onto it. There are chalk letters down the side which spell out LESLIE GRANTHAM. Some people are drawing on the ground using chalk. There are raised beds with herbs in them.
